How to Set Yourself Apart From Other Affiliates

By Chris Dawson

Considered today as one of the best and easiest way to earn some money, affiliate marketing is now attracting many people to represent themselves in this type of business. But as competition is getting a bit bigger, you may need some ways to distinguish yourself from the rest of the affiliate marketers. For the major reason that many of your competitors including you are promoting the exact same program, in the exact same zone or on the exact same websites perhaps. Now here are some tips that you may consider in order for you to stay in this business and have the chance to outwit and outplay other competitors of yours.

The first thing is for you to have your own website. It is very essential for you to have your own website in considering affiliate marketing as your professional career. Secondly, potential customers primarily go to websites in order for them to search and sometimes purchase items they were looking for. For the same reason that it is much easier to remember than a certain URL that you may be using and you can just point to your visitors the affiliate page in your website.

Another thing to remember is to have your own ad. A lot of times affiliates marketers have published the same ad two or three times done by advertisers. In this case, you may email the owner of your affiliate program asking that you make your own ads. This way, people may not become immune to ads, because sometimes seeing the same ads over and over again, may just make your potential customers to just skip it all together. Besides, your primarily purpose is to attract or encourage people to click and read your ads and be curios enough to click through your website.

Step three, have some products of your won which are only available through your website. Once you have your website going, it is important to have some products or services that your customers can’t find with other affiliate’s site. You want your customers to keep coming to your site and the best way to do that is to have something on your site that they can’t find on others. Being an affiliate marketer we must then choose a certain market segment where you can have a potential leadership or at least a strong challenger role.

The fourth step is to build a strong relationship with people who already buy your product. Now, in order for you as the marketer to fully answer the query of your potential customers, it is best to try and buy the product by yourself. With this particular notion, you can better sell the product that you are trying to market. You can share to your potential customers what a great experience you had with the product, and this can make them interested enough to buy the product. You may also be able to provide a support if necessary or you may provide a confident tutorial or steps on how to use the product that you are trying to market based on your personal experience. Entailing this idea is to be totally honest about the product that you are trying to market. If you find out that the program you were promoting is a scam, stop promoting it and inform your readers about it. This will help you build credibility with your lists.

We all make mistakes and admitting your mistake will boost your reader’s confidence in you. Lastly, don’t try to market everything you see. With services such as click bank, it is easy to become overwhelmed and try to market everything in the click bank marketplace. That is not a good idea. It’s better to focus on one market and market products that they would want. This is called niche marketing.

Try also to promote a certain product, which conforms to the specifications measured through indications of customer-satisfaction, rather than indicators of self-gratification. It is the customer who decides what to buy and not the company or the affiliate marketer. The company simply produces products catering to the needs and wants of their chosen market segment.

Today, different types of business are emerging from all over the world in a multinational level to reign supreme on their specific market segment that they are trying to dominate, and affiliate marketing is one of them. Affiliate marketing is definitely here to stay and it can become a great way to earn extra or even part time income. However, it won’t happen overnight. Like everything else in life, you’re going to have to put a lot of hard work into it. Good luck to you in your new venture.

5 Keys to Successful Internet Marketing

With internet marketing becoming more and more popular what are the keys you need to make a success of your internet marketing endeavors? What things do you need to know or do in order to be a success at internet marketing?

1. List Building

If you have been in internet marketing for any length of time you will have heard the saying “the money is in the list”. Why do people say that? List building is vital to internet marketing because it gives you ongoing contact with your prospective customers. The first time people visit your website or your affiliate’s website they are not likely to buy the product. It has been said that a person needs to be exposed to something about seven times before they act on it so if you are just letting people drift by your website without getting their contact details then the chances are they will forget about it and you will lose the money. If, however, you have a list building system in place you can expose people to your product or your affiliate’s product as many times as you like and sooner or later if they are really interested they will buy something from you.

2. Targeted versus non-targeted traffic

Another important aspect of internet marketing is the quality of traffic you are driving to your website. If all the traffic you are getting to your website is non-targeted (traffic exchanges, safelists, etc.) then you will make relatively few sales because the people are not really interested in what you have to offer. However, if you target your advertising and use marketing techniques such as article marketing, forum marketing or targeted email groups then you are more likely to make sales because you are advertising to people who are already interested in your product.

3. Give the people what they want

If you want to sell to people you need to give them what they want. Different people are looking for different things but one way to ensure that you are reaching a fairly large group of people interested in your subject is to do some keyword research. If you can find an area where many people are looking but where there is relatively little competition then you have hit on a winner. If you are one of few companies meeting a large group of people’s needs then you will notice the effect of that in your bank balance. In internet marketing this is known as niche marketing.

4. Develop Multiple Income Streams

By developing multiple income streams you are reaching a variety of different target groups, preparing yourself well to adjust to cycles in the economy and marketplace and “not putting all your eggs in one basket”. This is therefore an important aspect to internet marketing and one you definitely need to consider.

5. Stay Focused

This may sound like a complete opposite of point four but it really is not. Although you want to have multiple income streams you also want to stay focused. You may choose to focus on a specific area or a specific product. You may choose to focus for example on dogs and then diversify by selling dog products as well as books and e-books about dogs. You could also choose to focus on information products and then sell e-books on many different subjects or set up adsense websites on a number of different subjects so focusing on product but diversifying your target market.

These five keys to internet marketing – list building, targeted advertising, niche marketing, multiple income streams and staying focused are vital to your internet marketing success and should be aspects that you consider carefully when establishing your internet business.

Niche Marketing Secrets: Go Deep, Not Wide

I was having a discussion with one of my clients this morning. He was trying to decide on which on-line niche he would focus his next campaign. He came up with the idea of writing a blog about diabetes.

Now diabetes certainly has a lot of search traffic each month. But, is it really a good niche? In fact, is it a niche at all? After conducting some keyword research, we found that diabetes was too broad of a term for any hope of landing on the front page of Google’s organic search.

You see, it isn’t enough to find a keyword phrase that has lots and lots of search traffic; that term must also be composed of “buyer keywords” (see my article on this blog). However, even the best buyer-keyword, with lots of traffic, still falls short if there is too much competition for that search term.

The secret for success lies in narrowly defining the niche, and then drilling down as deep as you can go within that niche to attract higher rankings; writing articles, making blog posts, commenting in forums, basically dominating that search term.

Most Internet marketers, however, choose the easier, and less profitable, route and end up using keywords that represent wide markets. Yes, there will be lots of traffic distributed throughout the market, but you are unlikely to capture any of it, at least in the short term.

To use the diabetes example above, our keyword research found that there were several promising (i.e. narrow, but deep) niches to be found within the wider market of diabetes; “diabetes exercise plans” and “diabetic teenagers” are but two examples.

Sure, there is less traffic to be found here, but there is also a much greater chance of ranking high enough in the search engines that you will actually be found by someone searching on these topics.

So, the next time you are considering a niche to enter, give some thought to narrowing your focus. Concentrate on buyer-keywords that have both enough traffic, and little competition.

In other words, “go deep, not wide”.

Q & A: Advice on best niche markets?

Note: The following was reprinted from Yahoo! Answers.

Question: Would like to build an e-commerce site and looking for fun/weird/unique markets to reach. Any advice, product recommendations or niche market suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Answer: Well, first you said best. Then you said fun, weird and unique. The best niche markets are those that receive the most search engine traffic. An e-commerce website should show that you are an expert in that niche. That means you will be writing a lot of content, each of those articles using a popular keyword (or keyword phrase) related to the niche. What do you enjoy? What do you know that other people might not know? Write down a few potential niches. Use the Google Keyword tool to see how many searches and how many genre-specific keywords are being used in those searches.

Finding a Good Niche: How To Maintain Your Focus

If you are planning on becoming a successful niche marketer, you will have to get used to the idea of dominating your niche. That means, you will have to become prolific in your marketing and promotion. Writing articles, commenting on blog posts, hanging out in forums – each of these are important elements in becoming a recognized expert in your niche of choice.

But, how do you maintain the motivation and enthusiasm needed to keep your focus. In short, follow your passions.

Here is a 3-minute YouTube video from Lisa at 2planawebsite.com which helps explain this concept:

Identifying Your Niche

Long before you get busy with keyword research, competitor analysis, or link-building strategies, you need to identify the niche market within which you will be competing.

Broadly speaking, a “niche” is a sub-set of a market; for example, “1956 Chevy’s” would be a niche in the “automobile” market.

Why do we want to identify a niche? The simple and most straight-forward answer has to do with your available resources. The vast majority of Internet marketers simply won’t have the resources – financial or otherwise – to successfully compete in broad markets. So, the only viable alternative is to pick a niche within a market where you can gain a foothold, and then successfully compete (that is, make a profit).

There is much to say about identifying niches from which to start your marketing. This post, however, will focus on how to come up with some niche “ideas” from which to begin your market research.

On-line Sources

Places such as Amazon.com and Yahoo Answers are good places to go for gathering niche ideas. Google Trends is another good place to go to find out what’s hot right now.

Web 2.0 properties, such as YouTube, Squidoo, Facebook, and Twitter, all have searchable databases where you can find good ideas.

Another route would be to follow the money. For a niche to be viable there has to be enough advertisers paying for ads to be put in front of targeted readers. As such, Google AdWords, and Yahoo Marketplace are also good places to locate niches worth considering. A good place to start would be to look for keywords that show four or more paid advertisers.

While you are on-line, search through the blogs and forums for selected markets. The presence of blogs and forums is a good indication that there is a marketplace for selling products into that niche; and the blogs and forums will also help reveal needs and frustrations to be found within those niches.

Off-line Sources

Consider your local magazine rack for fresh ideas. Most every niche has magazines dedicated to interested readers, and it is a good bet that, if the magazine has been around for awhile, it has a big enough audience to support the niche.

Finally, consider your own interests and hobbies. These are rich sources of niche ideas where you can identify needs and wants in a marketplace.

So, start you research by identifying some niche ideas that you might want to pursue. Only after you have generated a number of possible niche ideas should you follow-up those ideas by conducting keyword research to estimate both the available traffic, and level of competition, within each niche.

I will cover that topic in a future post.
